Prayer LetterSeptember-October 2009 Dear Pastors and Praying Friends, As I start this letter, I can’t help to think of the many blessings that God has bestowed upon me, even while I have had my eyes on the trials of this life. The cares of this life and family matters often pull our eyes off of God and onto them, but what it should do is make us draw even closer to Him. God has been working deeply in our family and revealing areas that needed dealt with. These “family matters” have made us draw even closer to God and has taught us once again about His grace, mercy, and longsuffering. The reason that this letter is a little late is that I wanted to report about a trip to Mexico that I had the opportunity to go on recently. A church in Monterrey, Mexico was scheduling their annual mission’s conference and asked me to attend as they were interested in supporting a missionary in Scotland again, due to the one they had supported had taken a church in Arizona. I began to pray for the financial means to be able to make the trip to the border, where I would be picked up and transported to Monterrey. I received $100 from an old acquaintance that I haven’t seen in several months, and $40 from an internet listener of our home church’s radio station. I also received $145 from the men’s and children’s Sunday school classes the Sunday before our trip. I had to spend $40, so my son Andrew and I started the trip with $245. Pastor Danny Jones told me to get a motel on Thursday night and he would pick me up on Friday morning, take me to the service that night, and a man from his church would take me back on Saturday. When I arrived at in McAllen, TX on October 22nd and checked into the hotel, the clerk asked me if I wanted to pay cash or put it on the credit card. I told him cash if I had enough to cover it. He said that the total was $76.83. I looked in my wallet and there was exactly $76. I dug into my pocket and pulled out 93 cents. PRAISE GOD! I had a dime left over! The generous love offering and reimbursement for my room allowed us to make it back home with $173 left over. PRAISE GOD! The day after returning I received a call from Bro. Plato Shepherd and he told me the mission church he has started in Kansas (Cottonwood Valley Baptist) voted to support us. PRAISE GOD Again! We are getting ready to hit the road again and the calendar is beginning to get filled for 2010. Over the next few weeks we will be in services and mission’s conferences in North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. Please continue to pray for open doors and traveling mercies. Also pray that our family will remain healthy during cold and flu season, as we travel to many churches. Many phone calls have revealed churches that are struggling financially, because of “lay offs” their members are facing. Pray that somehow God’s people will “strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die:” Pressing Toward the Mark, Bro. Douglas Bell P.S. Thank you for your prayers and continued support!
